Finger Placement Calculator

Where in the world do I put my fingers?

  1. Measure your instrument from the bottom of the nut to the bridge.
  2. Select and download the chart to fit your instrument
  3. Print the chart. IMPORTANT: Make sure that you print your chart at 100% size with no scaling.
  4. Use tape to mark the finger positions on your fingerboard.

Colored decorative plastic tape works best for this purpose.DO NOT use masking tape, duct tape, transparent tape or freezer tape. These kinds of tape could damage you finger board.

Tape is not perfect! Since a violin doesn’t have frets, the slightest finger movement can change your pitch. Remember the tape is just for reference. If it doesn’t sound in tune, it probably isn’t. Trust you ear and move the tape accordingly!
